Giant Drag’s EP & “Stuff To Live For” Video

Silver Lake’s Giant Drag is back after a stint on Interscope records a couple of years ago. Their “comeback” EP is called Swan Song. See below for their video “Stuff to Live For.” I’m gonna go out on a limb and dub this the best video of 2010. It’s forever changed the way I feel about pudding. Truly.

Bands: So Ya Wanna Make Your Own T-Shirts?

If you’ve ever thought, “Man, I wish my band was cool enough to have t-shirts” then this is for you. I recently made t-shirts for my band, The Swagger Sticks, with the help of an artist in San Pedro (thank you Kazka). This video runs through the process in a fun way so I thought I would post [...]

AFGMR Presents: Post-Apocalyptic Bebop @ Mr. T’s Bowl

This is quite possibly the coolest flyer ever designed. I’m serious. Sincere thanks to Robert Paul Mune from King Cheetah for this AMAZING artwork. Is there anything this bloke can’t do? I (and the rest of  The Swagger Sticks) are thrilled to be sharing the bill with The Cold Chills, Star Parts, King Cheetah, Telomere Repair and DJ Nancy [...]

Just Added: Telomere Repair @ Mr. T’s Bowl

About Six months ago I went to go see Stab City open for punk legend Mike Watt at Alex’s in Long Beach. However, once I got to the club, I was told that Stab City had to cancel the show due a band-wide bout of flu.   Fortunatly for me, filling in for Stab City that night was Long Beach-based Telomere Repair, who not [...]

The Didjits (Touch & Go)

I’m revisiting my 80s punk days…I completely forgot about the The Didjits until like five minutes ago. Formed around 1984, they were the shit – sleazy, sarcastic midwestern cow-punk and label mates to classic Chicago bands like Urge Overkill and Naked Raygun. I probably saw them live at SIU but would have been too drunk to remember. I definitely forgot they were on [...]

The Occultations of Mad Planet (Dakota Lounge)

Mad Planet played the Dakota Lounge in Santa Monica last night. So where has your favourite trip-hop duo been hiding?   It’s weird enough that it’s been exactly one year to the day since I reviewed their last show at the Silver Lake Lounge (Feb. 13, 2009).   That’s almost too cosmic to comprehend. I mean Is Mad Planet aligned with the Mayan calendar or [...]

The Shakers & The Mulhollands (Viper Room)

Just 24 hours after kicking out the jams with The Swagger Sticks and friends at Mr. T’s Bowl, The Shakers were at it again. This time to a packed house at The Viper Room with The Mulhollands. One word: wow. These bands sport two of the most charismatic  (and talented) frontwomen in town. The Shakers have been getting [...]

AFG Must Rock Show @ Mr. Ts Bowl

This past Saturday AFG Must Rock put a show together at Mr. T’s Bowl with some L.A.’s best punk/rock bands.  Note: I just found out that LA Weekly gave the show a ‘Go’ rating!      THANK YOU to Radio Sweetheart, Icky’s Ego, The King Cheetah and The Shakers.
